The real Alan Turing. |
British actor Benedict Cumberbatch's latest movie is yet another biopic. This time, he "goes back" to the period of World War II to portray code-breaker Alan Turing. The Imitation Game will be his second time after The Fifth Estate, in which Cumberbatch plays a once respected man, who eventually finds himself in the bottom of the barrel.
Here's what I'm talking about:
"
Turing's homosexuality resulted in a criminal prosecution in 1952, when homosexual acts were still criminalised in the United Kingdom. He accepted treatment with female hormones (chemical castration) as an alternative to prison. Turing died in 1954, 16 days before his 42nd birthday, from cyanide poisoning. An inquest determined that his death was suicide.
