Cowabanga!
Every Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan is anxiously waiting to see Michael Bay's interpretation of the franchise, and more importantly, the ninja turtles themselves. Sadly, the production team has been keeping the design of the characters a big secret. Most entertainment websites published photos from the set, showing the actors dressed in their CG costumes, and that's the closest we got to seeing Michelangelo, Raphael, Leonardo and Donatello.
Today, we take another baby step, and get an even closer look at the four ninjas. AC Toys has released an awesome gallery of the new toys, tied to Michael Bay's reboot. Hold your breath and view the gallery below (courtesy of Comic Book Movie). Click to enlarge!
Are you happy with the design? Which ninja turtle is your favorite?
I know those are only toys, but they seem to be pretty accurate relative to the actual person/character these days. Overall, they look more ripped, detailed and human-like than any versions so far (including the animated series). Having seen the preliminary set photos, I was very skeptical about their look, mainly due to the enormous shells of the costumes. I am happy to find out that in reality they are a lot smaller than shown in the pictures. Thank God for that!
Speaking of proportions, one thing I don't like is the size of their heads, especially Raphael's. Their melons look like soccer balls attached to a Hulk-ish body. Raphael also seems to have a bandana, rather than a red mask, like his brothers, which I don't exactly approve.
Then there is Michelangelo's nunchucks, which is one piece made of three attached bars. I wish he had two separate nunchucks like in the cartoons.
Donatello is another example where Michael Bay's folks have taken the liberty to get nuts with the weaponry. You might notice that in addition to his stick, he has some sort of a device (machine gun?) strapped to his back.
Even with those major changes in mind, I love how the ninja turtles have turned out. Every one of them has a unique design from head to toe. They look absolutely AWESOME!
Stay tuned for the trailer!
