TOP 10: Movie Grosses of 2013

It was a strong year at the box office for Hollywood, posting record box office receipts of just under $11 billion. Of the top ten films, just two were not a sequel or prequel. Originality took a back seat and the audiences didn't mind.



Here are the top 10 grossing movies from 2013, based on data collected by Box Office Mojo.



10) OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL: ($234.9 million)

Released March 8 - There have been quite a few attempts to recapture the magic of 1939's THE WIZARD OF OZ, but almost all have failed. The only standout until 2013 is the 70's musical version THE WIZ, featuring Michael Jackson, Flip Wilson and Diana Ross. 1985's RETURN TO OZ was a huge flop for Disney. But, with the big budgets of today, OZ THE GREAT AND POWERFUL gave fans a new story to embrace along with the 1939 original.
