Primetime Cable Ratings: January 1, 2017

ESPN overwhelmingly dominated TV on New Year's Day, airing the two semifinal game of the College Football Playoffs. The late afternoon game commanded a 7.6 rating in Adults 18-49 and drew 25.9 million viewers. The late game, starting at 9:20 PM, Eastern Time, retained 20.4 million viewers and 82% in the demo. both games were up over last year, with the early game growing by over 40%. The ESPN2 simulcast added a million viewers to each game.
