NBC may have placed second on the night, but the combination of old and new crime dramas may be the combination for the night.
At 9 p.m., LAW & ORDER: SVU aired it's first original episode in six weeks and posted it's best numbers since the season premiere, grabbing 8.8 million viewers and a 2.1 demo rating. That led into the series premiere of the CHICAGO PD, a spin-off of CHICAGO FIRE. The new crime drama held 98% of the SVU audience and lost just one tenth of a ratings point in the A18-49 numbers. If viewers liked what they saw from CHICAGO PD, CSI will have run for it's money when it returns to new episodes.
